Delivery company employee killed at hub in Atlanta

An accident on Friday, Dec. 15 at the United Parcel Service (UPS) hub in Atlanta took the life of a 51-year-old male employee. The employee had worked for UPS for 17 years, was assigned to the dock and tasked with unloading trailers the day the accident occurred. The hub where the accident occurred is located on Pleasantdale Road, which is not far from the company's headquarters in the city.

According to a report from DeKalb County officials, the employee stepped off of the dock and wound up on the ground between the door for the dock and the trailer that was in reverse and headed towards the door. This report was disputed by a post on social media by a coworker of the victim. The victim's coworker reported the following about what happened:

The victim apparently was inside the trailer when an untrained UPS employee pulled it out of the dock. The victim fell off the trailer to the ground below, tried to get back onto the dock, but was unable to do so. No one else from UPS has corroborated this story. This version has also not been denied by anyone from UPS.

The accident is still under investigation and no further information was immediately available. In 2016, UPS employed more than 434,000 workers and made $3.4 billion in profit.
