You must know the dangers of falls

More than 8 million people visit an emergency room each year because of injuries due to falls. These accidents can lead to a host of injuries, but one of the most serious is fractured bones.

Of the fractures possible in a fall accident, a hip fracture is the most serious. A hip fracture can lead to many complications, including time in the hospital and even death. In older Americans, a hip injury means that they might not be able to live independently or return home. In fact, this is the case for half of these individuals who are hospitalized with a hip injury.

People who are 65 years old or older are those who are most likely to slip and fall. In this age category, one out of every three people will slip and fall. Of those, about half are people who have already fallen in the past.

In the age group of 85 or older, falls are the leading cause of deaths due to an injury. For people from 65 to 84, falls are the second most common cause of death due to an injury.

The elderly aren't the only people who are at risk of being injured or killed in a fall. Many occupations are associated with these injuries.

Slip-and-fall accidents are also possible in locations like shopping centers, venues and even homes. While falls are pretty evenly split between men and women, women are more likely to be the victims of slip-and-fall accidents.

The victims of falls are likely to have to seek medical care. Individuals who have a job might have to take time off work to heal. This can all be devastating to deal with while you are healing from your injuries. You might opt to seek compensation for the financial damages you suffered due to the injury.
